With just 2 days to go for the 14th edition of IPL, I'm sure fans like me can barely contain their excitement for the frenzy to begin!
Being a core Bengalurean, me ,my family, my in-laws are all ardent fans of RCB, whereas, my husband is a staunch KKR supporter, courtesy Mr. SRK. There have been countless instances of me being trolled for the now infamous meme material tag line- "Ee sala cup namde". This year, given the money RCB has spent on acquiring Glenn Maxwell and Kyle Jamieson, I truly hope the cup comes to us!
I am skeptical of Glenn Maxwell being bought for such a hefty amount, despite the forgettable IPL statistics. Given that he is such a celebrated player and can truly be destructible for the opposition, as we saw during the recent Australian series, his national success hasn't really catapulted into memorable IPL games. However, it's good to have him on RCB's side and I'm positive, when the time comes, he'll shine. As for Kyle Jamieson, we need to wait and watch.
The mini auction was a revelation of sorts considering the money spent on players. This is also a very good opportunity to see who clicks in the team and can be retained / bought in the next year's mega auction, with the possible addition of 2 new teams.
Come April 9th, the IPL will kickoff with the most exciting teams RCB vs. MI. One, high on popularity and the other high on trophies. I am sure the IPL will provide much needed solace from the hardships being faced due to the pandemic and also the excruciating summer.
So, sip on the coolers, mojitos and keep some snacks handy because with the IPL in the forefront, everything else is going on the backseat!
